Tucson Saguaros lose third straight game to Alpine (Texas) Cowboys

The Tucson Saguaros’ lead over the second-place Alpine (Texas) Cowboys is down to 1 1/2 games in the Pecos League Mountain Division after the Cowboys won their third straight game against the Saguaros, an 8-6 final Monday at Alpine.

Tucson (30-12) concludes its three-game series at Alpine (31-16) on Tuesday. The Saguaros return to Kino Memorial Stadium on Thursday for the start of a four-game series with the Roswell (N.M.) Invaders (28-19) to finish the regular season.

After falling behind 8-3 through six innings Monday against Alpine, Tucson rallied for three runs in the seventh and eighth inning but it wasn’t enough.

The normally potent Saguaros lineup had only one player with multiple hits — Kirkland Trahan, formerly of Delta State. Trahan went 2 for 4 with a run and three RBIs.

Steve Joyner (Claflin University) hit an RBI double and Gavy PerezTorres (University of the Southwest) had a two-run triple.
