Sophia Silverstein, an eighth grader at Red Rock Elementary, won the 2024 Little League Home Run Derby on Aug. 23 by hitting 60 home runs out of 64 swings.

She hit 25 in the championship round to defeat Sierra Vista’s Mia Zuniga, who hit 23.

Silverstein thrilled the crowd at Williamsport, Pa., by hitting 16 consecutive home runs during the competition.

For that performance, Silverstein is the Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month for August.

Silverstein hit 17 home runs in 90 seconds to capture the home run derby championship held at the Little League Softball West Region at San Bernardino, Calif., on July 21.

The Marana athlete also took part in the MLB Trailblazer Series this past April at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida. Silverstein was one of about 100 girls in the country chosen for this event, meant to grow the sport of baseball with females.

She also won that home run derby and was an MVP.
