Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month: Rincon/UHS cross country runner Amelia North


Rincon/University senior runner Amelia North took second in Saturday’s Division I state meet (Stephanie van Latum/AllSportsTucson.com)

For the second consecutive year, Rincon/University senior runner Amelia North has earned the Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month honor for October because of her exploits on the cross country courses throughout the month.

North placed first in five different events during October —

  • Rincon/University home meet with Flowing Wells and Palo Verde (Oct. 2)
  • John Gleeson Lancer Invitational (Oct. 12)
  • Rincon/University meet with Douglas, Flowing Wells and Palo Verde (Oct. 16)
  • Eye of the Tiger (Oct. 19) … Her time of 17:44 is a personal record and the best in the state this season
  • AIA Sectional Division I Southwest (Oct. 23)

She placed second in Saturday’s Division I state meet at Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix, finishing in 18:13.8, just behind champion Taylor Drewry of Basha (18:09.0).

North is a potential future cross country runner at Arizona.
