Sunnyside’s girls basketball team is off to a 15-1 start and has won two tournament championships, including the Flowing Wells Holiday Shootout that finished Dec. 28.
The Blue Devils also captured the title of their own Inferno Invitational in late November.
One player was selected to both all-tournament teams: leading scorer Janae Pritchett, a senior guard.
Pritchett, who is averaging 10.9 points per game, had 20 points in the Blue Devils’ 60-45 win over Douglas in the Flowing Wells Holiday Shooting championship game.
Pritchett also leads Sunnyside with 3.6 steals per game.
In the month of December, she had 22 points and nine steals in a win over Mountain Ridge, 12 points and seven steals in a victory over Tanque Verde and 11 points and six steals in a win over Sabino.
She averaged 11.4 points and 4.0 steals per game in the month of December, when the Blue Devils went 9-1. She also averaged 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in the month.
For her performances, leading Sunnyside to its 15-1 record, Pritchett is the Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month for December.
