Catalina Foothills junior track and field standout Katie McNulty placed first in the 1,600- and 3,200 meter runs at the AIA state championship meet May 16 and 17 at Mesa Community College.

McNulty’s times in both events were personal records, and her finish in 4:52.74 in the 1,600-meter final was the top time in the state this season.

Her winning time in the 3,200-meter run was 10:46.39. She did not place first in the 3,200 earlier in the spring.

The victories at Mesa came after McNulty placed first in the 800 (2:17.78) and 1,600 (5:02.50) in the Southern Arizona Championships April 26 at Marana. She then placed first in the 800 (personal-best 2:14.23) in the Lancer Lightning State Qualifier at Salpointe on April 30.

For her winning times in the state championship meet in the middle of May, McNulty is the Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month.
