Brothers Kellen Deskins, a senior, and Kolttin Deskins, a junor, combined for nine of Benson’s 19 hits in the upset win for the Bobcats (17-12-1) over Round Valley (23-5).
Kellen went 5 for 5 with a double and five RBIs and Kolttin was 4 for 5 with five runs and a double.
Four other Benson players had multiple hits — Junior Easton Adams (3 for 5, run, three RBIs), senior Rawley Evans (2 for 5, run, three RBIs, double), sophomore Gaige Trejo (2 for 3, run), junior Tyson Kilpatrick (2 for 2, run).
Kellen Deskins was also the starting pitcher and he allowed five hits and six runs in 3 2/3 innings, but none of the runs were earned (the Bobcats had four errors). He had three strikeouts and two walks.
Benson, which led 8-7 after six innings, pulled away with seven runs in the seventh inning.
Adams had an RBI single, Evans a two-run single, junior Jason Santo an RBI single and Kellen Deskins a two-run single in the rally.
NEXT: Benson will play in the semifinal round Friday at Tempe’s Diablo Stadium against No. 3 Gilbert San Tan Charter (18-3). The time of the game is yet to be announced.
