Mountain View victorious behind pair of future Pima players Bojorquez & Figueroa



5A SOFTBALL ROUND THREE

No. 2 Mountain View 10, No. 3 Scottsdale Chaparral 3

Seniors Anyssa Bojorquez (3 for 3 with two RBIs) and Arianna Figueroa (complete-game performance with 11 strikeouts) were difference makers in the victory for host Mountain View (23-3) over Chaparral (20-10) on Saturday.

Mountain View scored all 10 of its runs in the second inning.

Bojorquez had two RBI singles in the rally that included three consecutive RBI doubles hit by seniors Mia Quinonez and Rhiannon Plunkett and sophomore Mia Lynch.

Freshman Makenna Dwyer and junior Danika Stoddard also had RBI singles.

That was plenty of run support for Figueroa (22-3). She allowed four hits, two earned runs and a walk to go with her 11 strikeouts, her 11th double-digit strikeout performance of the season.

Bojorquez and Figueroa will play for Pima Community College next season.

NEXT: Mountain View will play Friday at Amphi High School at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinal round against either No. 16 Gilbert Campo Verde (13-19) or No. 9 Surprise Willow Canyon (22-9). Those teams play in an elimination game Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Willow Canyon.

No. 4 Canyon del Oro 3, No. 9 Willow Canyon 0

Freshman Savanna Mares (19-5) threw a one-hitter and struck out 12 with one walk in the win for CDO (27-6) over visiting Willow Canyon.

The Dorados scored twice in the third inning following a couple of walks and a two-base error.

Their third run occurred in the fourth inning on an RBI double by freshman Brynnleigh Sholl, scoring senior Amelia DeAnda, who walked to lead off the inning.

Mares has an ERA of 1.06 in 132 innings. She has 231 strikeouts with 45 walks.

NEXT: CDO will play Friday at Cherry Field at 5:30 p.m. in a semifinal game against the winner of Wednesday’s elimination game between No. 11 Waddell Canyon View (24-7) and Chaparral. Those teams play in an elimination game Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Chaparral.

4A SOFTBALL ROUND THREE

No. 1 Salpointe 9, No. 4 Surprise Paradise Honors 1

Salpointe junior Isa Palomarez went 3 for 3 with two runs, a double and an RBI in her first game back from an injury that sidelined her for two weeks.

The Lancers (25-4) tallied 10 hits and capitalized on three errors by Paradise Honors (25-4).

Sophomores Addi Wild and Torrence Salyer each hit a home run.

Wild finished 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Salpointe senior ace Macee Jackson (14-2) recorded the complete-game victory, allowing five hits and one unearned run. She struck out 12 and walked one.

Jackson, bound for Texas State, has 189 strikeouts and only six walks in 104 2/3 innings.

NEXT: Salpointe will play in the semifinal round Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Amphi. The Lancers will face either No. 10 Flagstaff Coconino (22-8) or No. 6 Cave Creek Cactus Shadows (21-8). Those teams play Tuesday at 4 p.m. in an elimination game at Cactus Shadows.
