Salpointe graduate Bria Medina transferring from Knox College to Iowa Hawkeyes



Former Salpointe Catholic High School standout point guard Bria Medina is transferring to Iowa of the Big Ten with one year of eligibility remaining after becoming the No. 2 scorer NCAA Division III at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill.

Medina averaged 23.6 points per game at Knox last season, scoring fewer than 20 points in just three of her 26 games last season.

The 5-foot-6 guard shot 35.6% from 3-point range and 46.9% from the field while playing 36 minutes per game.

She started all 78 games during her three-year career with the Prairie Fire, averaging 16.9 points in her freshman season and 18.2 as a sophomore.

Former Salpointe teammate Kylee Callahan completed her career at Knox last season. Sunnyside graduate Nayeli Nidez Acuña has played the last two seasons with the Prairie Fire.

Medina earned Midwest Conference Player of the Year last season and is a three-time All-Midwest Conference First-Team selection.

She broke the career scoring record as a junior at Knox in February. She scored 27 points in a win over Webster, giving her 1,389 career points at the time. She finished with 1,524 points and averaged 19.5 points and 3.5 assists in her caeer.

Medina was the starting point guard as a junior when Salpointe won its first girls basketball state championship in the 2021-22 season. She finished with 1,136 points, 260 assists and 309 steals in her four-year varsity career with the Lancers.

She joins Georgia transfers Dani Carnegie and Jocelyn Faison and Oklahoma State transfer Amari Whiting in Iowa’s transfer portal class.
