Cienega, under first-year coach and alum Stephen Keck, will return to Tucson from Mesa as champion of its bracket in the Section 7 basketball event on Sunday.

The Bobcats went 4-0 to earn the OrthoArizona Bracket championship.

They defeated Las Vegas Democracy Prep 86-73 in the title game to compete their run.

Jackson Moore, a senior guard, scored 20 of his game-high 27 points in the first half. He made four 3-pointers in the first 16 minutes.

“I feel it’s my duty to set the tone for everybody else,” Moore told AZPreps365.

Chase Briggs, a senior forward, scored nine of his 11 points in the second half, and senior forward Bobby Baltierrez had 19 points.

Cienega opened with a victory over Anaheim (Calif.) Fairmont Prep 47-40 on Friday, and won two games Saturday — Eastvale (Calif.) Eleanor Roosevelt 66-58 and Fairfield (Calif.) Vanden 71-60.

Cienega is led by Keck, a Class of 2009 standout with the Bobcats who is also a math teacher at the Vail school.

“We talked about things that can travel on the road in order to come up to Phoenix and win a state title,” Keck told AZPreps365. “Defense, rebounding, hustle, energy, communication, all of those things we can control. That’s our ID. We are just going to keep getting better. This is only just the start for these guys.

“I work so hard for those guys because they work so hard for me. I’m so proud of their efforts and buy in.”
