Update: Marana (6-0 overall, 1-0 in the 5A Southern) is the No. 1 team in the Open Division in the first release of the power ratings by the AIA on Tuesday. The system deems the Tigers the top overall program in the state despite being a 5A team compared to Phoenix-area powerhouse programs Chandler Basha (5-1), Phoenix Brophy Prep (5-1) and Mesa Red Mountain (6-0) — the three top teams rated in 6A. Marana’s lofty rating is based on victories over Salpointe, Gilbert Higley and Tucson High (which is the No. 16 team in the Open Division rankings).
