The lone No. 1 seed in Southern Arizona softball for the postseason is Salpointe Catholic in the 4A, and the ace of the staff, senior Macee Jackson, is a significant reason why.
Jackson is as 12-2 with a 0.98 ERA. She has yielded only 59 hits and 13 earned runs in 92 2/3 innings. She has 166 strikeouts and only five walks.
Jackson is bound for Texas State, which is shifting to the new Pac-12.
She has compiled 440 strikeouts in three years at the varsity level and has walked only 25. At 31-9 overall, her career ERA is 0.86 in 278 innings.
In the month of April, when Salpointe made its final strong push toward the 4A playoffs, and captured the 4A Kino crown, Jackson was impeccable. She was 4-0 and allowed only two earned runs in 22 innings, good for an ERA of 0.63. She struck out 40 and did not issue a walk.
For her performance, Jackson is the Jet Sports Female Athlete of the Month for April.
