Former Mica Mountain ace Acelynn-Rose Heston signs with Pima’s softball program

Ace can now work toward being an ace at Pima Community College.

After a bout with indecision about continuing her softball career after four stellar years with Mica Mountain, pitcher Acelynn-Rose (Ace) Heston has signed to play with the successful Aztecs program and coach Rebekah Quiroz.

Heston primarily wanted to stay close at home, so she dismissed the idea of playing in college elsewhere. She planned on attending Arizona.

“I’m so excited to sign with Pima College because, at first, I wasn’t planning on playing softball this year,” Heston stated in a text message. “I thought it would be my last season, but Pima stayed super consistent, reaching out and showing how much they believed in me.

“After I toured the campus and met the coaches, I just knew it was the right fit. I can’t wait to be part of such a dedicated and supportive program!”

She was 64-26 in her career with the Thunderbolts, all as a starter, with an ERA of 2.21 in 578 2/3 innings. She had 749 strikeouts and only 107 walks in her career.

She led Mica Mountain to its first state championship appearance, when the Thunderbolts lost to Salpointe in the 4A final last month.

Pima is coming off its third consecutive NJCAA Division II World Series appearance. Pitchers Belen Camacho (Pueblo) and Sariah Ferrentino (Sabino) have exhausted their eligibility.

Sisters Adriana and Brooklyn Camacho (CDO) return. Pima has also signed Mountain View pitcher Arianna Figueroa, who is the sister of former Aztec infielder Clarissa Figueroa (also a Mountain View grad).
