Marcel “Hop” Bachelier Jr. played for the University of Arizona in the 1950s, his brother Luis played for the Wildcats in the 1960s and his son Marcel Bachelier, III played for Arizona in the 1980s and, now, his grandson Marcel Bachelier will be the fourth member of the Bachelier clan to wear Red and Blue.
The current Nogales standout announced his commitment to play for the University of Arizona on Wednesday. The senior outfielder batted .393 for the Apaches last year with 35 RBI, 10 doubles, five triples and two home runs.
“It absolutely means a lot especially with our family history,” Bachelier said. “My grandfather played for the UA, his brother also did, and my dad’s brother played for the UA so it is an absolute dream come true because it’s always been a goal of mine to commit and compete and hopefully win a national title with the University of Arizona.”
Sabino catcher Cassandra Castaneda announced her commitment to play for North Dakota. The junior batted .533 with 26 RBI and 12 doubles for the Sabercats last year.
“I am so excited to be a Fighting Hawk,” Castaneda said. “Me and my family are all very happy!”
San Miguel pitcher Leo Valdez announced his commitment to play for Penn State Fayette. Valdez picked up three wins and collected 53 strikeouts in 45 innings of work for the Vipers.
“My life has been up and down but today,” Valdez posted. “I am blessed to announce my commitment to Penn State Fayette!!”
