Over 600 elementary students took part in the highly-anticipated track meet hosted by the Amphitheater School District on Friday morning. Now over 30 years strong, the coaches and athletes of the Canyon del Oro Track & Field team hosted the event and handed out ribbons after each event held at the high school.

The district-wide 4th and 5th grade track meet is a showcase event for the Amphitheater School District and its continued support of Physical Education and the Arts at the elementary level. Each of the 15 elementary schools in the district provides highly qualified instruction in physical education, adaptive physical education, music, band, orchestra, art, library studies and computer sciences.

University of Arizona standout Sage Watson addressed the athletes and handed out awards. Watson is an NCAA champion in the 400 Hurdles and an Olympian. Watson spoke on the legacy left by former Dorado and Arizona hurdler Lezo Urreliztieta who passed away in 2013.

Students competed in numerous events including the mile run, 400-meter race, 100-meter hurdles, shot put and long jump. There were also several races held to celebrate the diversity of the district and its commitment to provide adaptive services, so that all children can succeed without barriers.
