Mica Mountain senior Tyla Greenwood, an Eastern Washington commit, emerged as the top girls golfer in the state in Division II after being one of the first to compete in the sport in 2023 for the new Vail school.

Greenwood competed with Mica Mountain in a coed conference that year and was a top-25 finisher. She finished ninth last year in the Division II state championship.

She claimed the championship by two strokes Oct. 28 at the Aguila Golf Course in Phoenix.

Greenwood has been around golf since she first started to walk, literally, in her native Philippines.

“My mother tells me I let go of her hand to walk for the first time when I saw all the golf balls in the local driving range in Dumaguete City, Philippines when I was a little over a year old,” Greenwood wrote in her recruiting profile.

For her accomplishment of winning the Division II state title, Greenwood is the Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month for October.
