Former Arizona sports information Frank Soltys is a member of the school’s hall of fame. It won’t be long until Tom Duddleston receives that honor. Duddleston served as SID for Arizona almost as long as Soltys, who was at Arizona from 1959 to 1979.

Upon his retirement, Duddleston was praised by local media veterans Anthony Gimino and Greg Hansen for what he brought to his position.

Gimino was one of the many workers in the media relations department who Duddleston helped to groom.

A long list of Duddleston disciples are all over sports organizations nationally including Detroit Pistons vice president of public relations Kevin Grigg, Pac-12 vice president of communications Dave Hirsch and Fox Sports Arizona public relations director Brett Hansen.

Duddleston’s professionalism left an imprint on those who worked for him and with him. He was widely respected by the media who worked with him because of his down-to-earth style.

In the eyes of many who visited McKale Center for their line of work, Duddleston was an asset to the university, one who is missed still today two years after his retirement.
